Event November 2022
ELLINIKO METRO SA , following the completion of the Metro Line 3 Extension project to Piraeus and the recent start of operation and use by passengers, organized on Friday 25 November 2022, the original educational event ” METΡΩ green routes”, for primary school students, in the surroundings of the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus.
The event was attended by students of the 5th and 6th classes of the 2nd Primary School of Piraeus “Uruguay”. The 2nd Primary School of Piraeus was founded in 1895 and in the school year 1993-1994 it was twinned with the HELLAS School of Montevideo, Uruguay and was renamed 2nd Primary School of Piraeus “Uruguay”.
The students, accompanied by their teachers, gathered at the outdoor area of the Municipal Theatre of Piraeus, where the terminal station of Metro Line 3 is located, which exhibits important findings from the largest archaeological research of an urban nature, that has been carried out in the wider area of Piraeus and at the same time a station-museum has been created, with a permanent exhibition dedicated to the water supply system of the ancient city of Piraeus.
With central motto “ΜΕΤΡΩ green routes”, ELLINIKO METRO SA took the initiative of implementing an original informative educational program, specially designed to familiarize children with “green” transportation.
The children had the opportunity to learn about the environmental benefits that citizens and visitors of the city gain from ecological transportation.
Specifically, through recreational, experiential and sports activities, children were informed about the “green” ways of transportation and the environmental benefits, but also about the sources of environmental pollution. Among other things, they were invited to solve a “green” Sudoku, participate in team games and build thematic constructions inextricably linked to environmental awareness.
ELLINIKO METRO SA designed and implemented the original educational program, in collaboration with the association of companies Choose – Stratego and the specialized team for conducting educational programs for schools “Ark Children’s Affairs” (www.kivotosevents.gr), in order to be offered free of charge to primary school students in Piraeus.
The venue was granted by the Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the Municipality of Piraeus.
